HARD FOUGHT NIGHT WITH STEADY GAINS FOR MOTTER TEAM FRIDAY AT THE DIRT TRACK

Concord, N.C. (Oct. 28, 2016) – With qualifying in the record books Thursday, Friday night’s World Finals sprint car action at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway kicked off with six heat races.

Dave Blaney, who qualified ninth in Flight 2, started from the third position in the sixth and final heat. The top three would transfer to the feature. When the green flag flew, polesitter Jason Johnson assumed the lead.  Blaney was fourth in the Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop 71M. At the checkered flag it was Johnson with the heat win and Blaney fourth, narrowly missing a transfer spot.

The Buckeye Bullet needed a top six finish in the 12-lap Last Chance Showdown to make his way to the A Main.

Blaney started fourth and was running fourth in the LCS when the yellow came out with one lap remaining.  With a green, white, checkered finish, the race technically scored 13 laps.  On the restart, Blaney battled with third place Tim Shaffer and made the pass to finish third, earning the 21st starting spot in the A Main.

The track was groomed prior to unleashing the field for 30 laps of hammer down racing for a $12,000 winner’s check.

Brother Dale Blaney was the initial leader with a pack of drivers close behind that included Brad Sweet, Jason Johnson and Logan Schuchart.  Dale Blaney led laps 1-23.  On lap 24, Johnson grabbed the lead and positions behind him shuffled.  When they crossed the finish line it was Johnson with the win, Logan Schuchart second and Donny Schatz, this year’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion, started 13th and worked his way to a third place finish.  Dale Blaney finished fourth.

The Buckeye Bullet, who started 21st, made steady gains throughout the event, finishing 16th.

The Motter team will return tomorrow night for the season finale.
