MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2016) – Dave Blaney and the Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop team joined the Pennsylvania Posse drivers and took advantage of tonight’s Tune-up for the World of Outlaws National Open at Williams Grove. The National Open is scheduled for Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Fighting handling problems early in the evening, Blaney could only muster a best lap of 17.377 seconds, placing him 27th in the qualifying order.
In the equivalent heat format, Blaney occupied the ninth place starting position in the third and final 10-car, eight-lap heat.
When the green flag flew on the heat, the Buckeye Bullet began his battle forward. When the caution came out with three laps complete, Blaney had worked his way up to sixth. When the field went back to green flag racing, Blaney held his position, finishing sixth to transfer to the A Main.
Lucas Wolfe led the first 10 circuits of the 25-lap feature, but on lap 11, Greg Hodnett made the pass for the lead. With 14 laps complete, a Danny Dietrich flip triggered a lengthy (25 minute) red flag while track personnel towed Dietrich’s car back to the pits and cleaned up an on-track fuel spill. Dietrich was out of the car with assistance from Doug Esh.
Hodnett won, Lucas Wolfe was second and Stevie Smith was third.
Handling and steering problems finally caused Blaney to make an early exit in the feature.
