SEPTEMBER 9, 2016 ( Port Royal, Pa.) Dave Blaney and the Motter Motorsports Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop team were back in competition tonight with the Arctic Cat All Stars at Port Royal Speedway.
Friday’s Night Before the 50 (Tuscarora 50) featured the All Stars vs. the Pennsylvania Posse, a total of 41 410 Sprint Cars, with $5,000 going to the winner.
Blaney drove the signature yellow 71M to the 16th qualifying position with a 16.650-second lap around the half-mile track.
The Buckeye Bullet paced the field to the green flag from the pole position in the fourth heat. Five of the 10 starters in the heat would transfer to the A Main, but the field was loaded with heavy hitters. When the track went green, Blaney showed the way, maintaining the lead through all eight laps to the checkered flag. It was a stellar run for the 71M pilot.
Blaney took the green flag for the 30-lap A Main from the 10th position. Pole sitter Greg Hodnett led the pack followed by Brock Zearfoss and Stevie Smith. Blaney was 11th. Lance Dewease grabbed the lead on lap nine and one lap later brought out the caution when a loose fuel line caused the car to slow on the backstretch. Back to green with Hodnett showing the way. On lap 12, Stevie Smith got the advantage. The Buckeye Bullet turned up the wick and began to advance through the field. Blaney was riding in fifth place with eight laps remaining, then vacillated between fourth and fifth. On the last lap Danny Dietrich reeled Blaney in claiming the fifth spot. Blaney crossed the finish line in sixth place in a hard-fought race.
Stevie Smith was tonight’s victor, Greg Hodnett was second and Lucas Wolfe was third.
The Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop team will be back at Port Royal tomorrow night for the Tuscarora 50.
