KOKOMO, Ind. (July 23, 2016) – Tonight’s Arctic Cat All Stars Dirt Classic Indiana utilized a special format that accumulated points from two sets of heat races which ultimately determined the main event lineup. Friday night’s results helped set the heat lineups for tonight
Dave Blaney finished fifth in his first heat. In the second heat, he drove the Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop 71M to a dominant wire to wire win. He earned enough points to start 17th in the A Main.
The 40-lap feature got off to a slow start bogged down by a red flag after lap one and a yellow after the second lap. On the next green flag, the drivers were able to build momentum. Leading the pack was Sheldon Haudenschild, followed by Christopher Bell and Rico Abreu. Dave Blaney was moving through the field and was running 10th.
On lap 24, Abreu was able to pass Haudenschild for the lead. There were two more yellows. When the track went green after a lap 34 restart, Abreu paced the pack, Haudenschild was second but Jamie Veal’s slide job gained him third place previously occupied by Bell. Blaney shot to ninth place and battled with Spencer Bayston to maintain the position. At the checkered flag it was Abreu with the inaugural Dirt Classic Indiana victory, Jamie Veal second and a three-wide battle coming off turn four yielded a third place finish for Chad Kemenah. Blaney crossed the finish line in ninth place.
“It was a good night for our team,” said owner Dan Motter. “Dave got the lasso out and gained eight positions, starting 17th, finishing ninth. That’s a good night’s work for Dave and the team.”
The Motter team’s next outing is scheduled to be the Capitani Classic Aug. 8 at Knoxville.
