LIMA, Ohio (June 24, 2016) – Night 7 of Arctic Cat All Star Ohio Sprint Speedweek went into the history books tonight at Limaland Motorsports Park. Dave Blaney joined 46 other drivers to vie for a chance to stand atop the victory podium.
This was Blaney’s second appearance in Ohio Speedweek competition.
In preliminary qualifying action, the Buckeye Bullet was quickest in his heat race group with an 11.132-second lap and was fifth quick overall.
In the second heat, Blaney and the signature yellow Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop 71M took the green flag from the outside of the second row. When racing action initially started, Blaney was on the move on the backstretch going for the lead when Joe Swanson hit the wall and brought out the yellow. Back for a complete restart. The next green attempt was called back. On the third try, racing got underway, but Blaney got bottled up and fell back to eighth place. Lee Jacobs and Byron Reed traded the lead early in the heat and at the checkered flag it was Jacobs with the victory. The top five transferred to the feature.
Blaney finished seventh and his path to the A Main had to go through the B.
The pole of the B Main went to the Buckeye Bullet but when the field went green, he was shuffled back to third. The leader was Tyler Courtney who had started on the outside of the front row and second was Cale Thomas. By lap four, Blaney had advanced to second, passing Thomas. On lap seven, Thomas reclaimed second and Blaney was third. On the final lap of the 12-lap B Main, Kraig Kinser passed Blaney to steal third. Blaney finished fourth in the final transfer spot and occupied the 24th starting position in the feature.
After the four-wide salute, the A Main field was unleashed but only one lap was completed before the yellow was displayed. Back to green with 39 to go. Blaney restarted 22nd but with six laps completed he brought out the yellow after he tagged the wall on the backstretch, done for the evening.
Randy Hannagan was the night’s winner and Jamie Veal finished second after leading every lap but the final three when Hannagan prevailed. Third was Travis Philo.
Blaney finished 24th.
The team is scheduled to finish Ohio Sprint Speedweek tomorrow night at the Eldora finale.
