WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 22, 2016) -- Dave Blaney and the Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop 71M team were back at Weedsport Speedway tonight with the World of Outlaws for the Empire State Challenge. The Speedway, purchased by Blaney’s friend and 71M sponsor Al Heinke in 2014, has undergone a complete makeover.
As team owner Dan Motter stated, “This track is world class. Al has done a tremendous job taking into consideration, not only the racers’ needs, but he has incorporated all the creature comforts to give the fans an optimum experience.”
It was the first time ever that the World of Outlaws had raced under all LED lighting, another cutting edge feature at Weedsport.
After hot lapping in warm-ups, Blaney was not as comfortable in the car as he felt he needed to be to give a 100 percent effort against the Outlaws.
“It was great to see the improvements that Al (Heinke) has made at Weedsport,” said Blaney. “It is a great facility and really fast. The existing track record from last year was lowered by more than one second tonight.
“You pretty much just have to get in the car under race conditions to determine if you are prepared to return and with the speeds and the level of competition here tonight, I don’t think we are 100 percent ready. These things take time. Mentally I am ready to get back out and mix it up but you have to be patient. So we will wait.
“Thanks to all our fans for their understanding and all the words of encouragement we continue to receive.”
